At the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland last week, (RED)– the AIDS organization founded by Bono and Bobby Shriver– marked ten years since its 2006 inception at the same location.

Founded to create a sustainable flow of private sector money for the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, and heat around the AIDS issue, (RED)‘s partners, special events and many extraordinary collaborators have generated $350 million for the AIDS fight since 2006. To mark the anniversary and doubling (RED)’s impact, The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation announced that it will match every dollar generated by (RED) for the Global Fund in 2016, up to $50 million.

With UNAIDS data showing that mother-to-child transmission of HIV could be effectively ended as early as 2020, América Móvil, Apple, Bank of America, Belvedere, GAP, SAP, Starbucks and The Coca-Cola Company have renewed their partnerships with (RED) in support of reaching this goal, with NetJets, Salesforce and Tradeshift also announcing new partnerships with (RED) to fight AIDS.

This week, global health leaders gathered at the Rotary Convention in Atlanta to reaffirm their commitment to eradicating polio and pledge $1.2 billion to finance efforts to end the disease.

Thirty years ago, polio paralyzed more than 350,000 children each year in more than 125 countries around the world. Thanks to the extraordinary efforts of governments, health workers, donors and the partners of the Global Polio Eradication Initiative (GPEI), a public-private partnership dedicated to ending the disease, the highly contagious virus has now been eliminated in all but three countries: Afghanistan, Nigeria and Pakistan. There have been only five cases to date in 2017.

However, children remain at risk everywhere until polio is completely stopped. To end the disease for good, government representatives and partners came together to renew their commitment to supporting crucial activities such as vaccination and disease monitoring, which will protect more than 450 million children from polio each year.

Ahead of World AIDS Day 2017, (RED)– the AIDS organization founded by Bono and Bobby Shriver – announces it has delivered a total of $500 million to The Global Fund, to fund HIV/AIDS programs in sub-Saharan Africa.

Since (RED)’s founding in 2006, the money raised through special events and campaigns led by more than 100 private sector partners, supporters and creative collaborators has benefited the lives of 110 million people through treatment, prevention, testing, counseling and care services.

Bono, co-founder, (RED), said; “Half a billion dollars to prevent and treat AIDS– now that’s a reason to punch the sky. When Bobby Shriver and I started (RED) just over a decade ago we had big goals, but even our big heads couldn’t have dreamed up a number like that. This achievement belongs to the (RED) companies and consumers who have supported (RED) and raised a load of money and a load of awareness about AIDS– which is more the point because our experience is if there isn’t heat and excitement around an issue, big government budgets get cut and people die.”
